Challenges of Commercial Banks Regulation in Nigeria

The history of the banking system in Nigeria has been occasioned by many problems that resulted distress. consolidation and recapitalization exercise sector 2005 was done a bid to resolve this dilemma. This study examined challenges regulating commercial banks Nigeria. To achieve objective, survey research approach adopted. Specifically, researcher relied mainly on secondary data for bulk materials used. Three hypotheses were formulated, analyzed, tested using statistical mean chi-square. result findings shows system, which include: weak corporate governance, insider dealings abuses, lingering boardroom squabbles, massive money laundering, etc., if not properly checked regulators, can mar banks' adherence provisions CBN Acts regulatory supervisory functions NDIC have effectively curtailed distress Nigerian system. concluded there huge success ensuring sanity, safety, confidence due CBN's robust network. study, amongst other recommendations, maintained should be proactive adhere prudential guidelines.
